Gingerbread House Lit Mag

Before Pyewacket

The late-season storm
darkening the amphitheater
and the great apron of lawn
running down to the train station,
the creaking of trees
and flaying of leaves
and cannon from Brandywine battlefields
shouting down the roses
in the circular garden across
from the library,
all called down
by a woman, barefoot, with a smirk.
